Indian Rummy

Get familiar with sets, sequences and the checks needed before declaring a hand.

Arranging your hand

Indian Rummy is commonly played with 13 cards. Players organise their cards into valid combinations while drawing and discarding during their turns.

Sets and sequences

A sequence groups consecutive ranks in one suit. A set groups equal ranks in different suits. Cards cannot normally belong to two combinations at the same time. Rules for jokers, declarations and scoring depend on the variant.

Start with a checklist

Identify the version, required combinations, pure-sequence requirements and scoring before playing. Ask how printed and selected jokers are used. Follow the current app instructions if you are learning digitally.

Practise sorting

Lay out sample cards and try more than one arrangement. Check whether a card is needed by another combination before moving it. A completed-looking layout should still be checked against the exact declaration requirements.

Learn one variant first

Changing variants while learning can create confusion. Choose a practice format and build familiarity with its requirements before trying another mode. This site provides information and does not operate a game or process money.
