Start with the basics
Start with a reliable reference for your chosen version. Read each hand category and create a few sample hands. Check categories first, then use the version’s tie-breaking rules.
Put it into practice
Practise with two open hands at a time. Explain why one ranks higher before checking the reference. Add unusual examples only after the common patterns feel familiar.
Before your next session
Keep a note of house-rule differences, especially ace ordering and wild cards. Revisit the reference when you change formats. The goal is understanding, not memorising a promise of winning.
